Chiropractic care is a great pain relief option for people of any age. Some people may not know that pediatric adjusting is even a thing! At Level Spine Chiropractic we will never turn away a patient because they do not fit into a particular age group. No matter how old you are, if you have a spine, you should be a patient of mine!

Adults and Seniors

Getting adjusted regularly has been proven to slow degenerative processes, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and more. As we age our bodies go through a lot of chemical and physical changes, many of which can benefit from spinal manipulation. And of course, we accept Medicare! And for those of you looking to enter into our Wellness Care Program, payment options are available to make staying well and feeling great an affordable luxury typically not seen inside a bottle of meds. A natural part of aging is the loss of bone and muscle mass. By the age of 50 a typical person starts to show a decrease of about 1.5% in muscle strength per year (this process is called sarcopenia). And by the age of 60, this number increases to about 3.0%. Proper nutrition and exercise are vital in this phase of life for us to maintain the ability to do the things that we enjoy doing. Aches and pains are not a natural part of life and are present because there is a cause. Chiropractors are experts in finding the cause of these pains and addressing any treatment options that might be available. And fortunately for you, chiropractic care is great at treating these aches and pains by keeping the nervous system functioning at its best which will help the rest of your body function at its best as well.

Pregnancy and chiropractic go hand in hand with each other. Chiropractic care during pregnancy has consistently shown positive results with low back discomfort, pelvic pain, as well as decreased pain and complications during the delivery process. Dr. Ludwig also uses a simple table modification to accommodate pregnant bellies without the increased discomfort of lying on a flat table.

As your body gets ready for the new arrival your hormone balances are also changing. One such chemical that plays a big factor is called “Relaxin.” This hormone is responsible for a variety of changes that occur during your pregnancy, including increase heart rate, increased renal function, and several others. One such reaction that occurs is the softening or relaxing of your ligaments. This makes it easier for the baby to come out but also predisposes you to spinal misalignments. Low back pain and pelvic pain during pregnancy can often be correlated to this chemical’s effects as well as other postural stresses you are now experiencing. Routine chiropractic care, while you are pregnant, is a great way to limit these pains and stay ahead of any muscle or joint problems before they start turning into pains.

Babies and Children

The birthing process can be very traumatic on the spine of a newborn. Using a very light and gentle touch, Dr. Ludwig is able to find and correct the tiny misalignments that may be present that the child is unable to communicate. Chiropractic care on infants has been shown through clinical case studies to improve the symptoms of several different types of conditions such as infantile colic (crying of more than 3 hours a day, more than 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks), nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) and more.

Kids will be kids. And kids will play like kids. This sometimes results in minor injuries that don’t seem to really bother anything on the surface but may, in fact, be hindering the signals that the nervous system is sending. A great way to look at this is to imagine a garden hose. If the valve is open 100% water will flow and you know everything is working. If you close the valve to 80% the water will continue to flow but at a lower rate but for the most part, the system still appears to be working properly. If that valve is closed to 50% then the flow of water has been slowed enough for you to now notice that something is wrong. This type of closing can actually happen in the human body. The flow-on nerve signals can be thought of as the water faucet. When the signal is 100% everything is working at it’s best and all of your muscles and other organs can perform flawlessly. If that signal is reduced to 80% then most of the signal is still being sent but there may be some minor effects of this restriction that may not be seen on the surface. At this point, symptoms such as aches and pains may or may not be present. Now let’s turn that signal down to 50%. By now the body is still trying to work with what it’s got but is now forced to call in reinforcements. The only way it can do this is to tell the brain that there is a problem, in the form of a symptom. The symptoms may not just be a pain either. Constantly saying they are tired, depressed, anxious, getting frequent headaches, bathroom problems, not being able to concentrate, feeling short of breath, all may all be symptoms of internal processes that are not being performed optimally. If you notice any of these in your child then their bodies may be trying to call in reinforcements, that’s where we come in. Dr. Ludwig can examine your young ones and determine if there any spinal or neurological problems present that may be affecting the rest of their body.
